影藝學院每年都會針對奧斯卡金像獎競賽規則進行檢討，今年有一些特殊的改變，比方說最佳特效獎，從1996年以來一直限制3部影片提名，不過因為特效影片愈來愈多的關係，從明年開始，特效項目將增加為五部提名。
還有則是動畫長片的長度定義，原本規定動畫長片一定都得超過70分鐘，不過這讓許多長度介於40到70分鐘的動畫既不能角逐動畫短片，也不能參加動畫長片項目，新的規定是，影片只要超過40分鐘，就可以角逐動畫長片類，這讓動畫類長度的規則與真人影片一致。
另外則是本篇post的主題，可能是因為阿凡達(Avatar)的關係，呼應詹姆斯柯麥隆認為這部以mocap為主要技術製作的影片不是動畫的說法，影藝學院特別針對mocap產生的影響，再次定義動畫，新的規則是：影片單用motion capture這個技術不能稱作是動畫，所謂動畫影片指的是，影片中的動態以及人物的表演必須都是以逐格(frame by frame)的技術製作才算數，除此之外，要稱得上是動畫，影片中絕大多數的主要人物都必須以動畫(逐格技術)製作，且長度不可低於整部影片的75%，看來那些想要用mocap拍動畫的人是不會有機會參加奧斯卡了。

then how about "monster house"? or "happy feet"?
It seems like according to the new rules, movies such as Beowulf, A Christmas Carol, Monster House and Happy Feet won't be eligible for Best Animated Feature nomination although they may still compete in Best Picture category.
i kinda agree what Jean-Denis Haas was saying in his article , Mocap is considering as a tool or a method, and if there arent any tweaking or manipulating on the record data, then it isnt an animation.
but personally I love fraem by frame :)
